Kinja'd!!!

A friend of mine is looking to buy a new Challenger Scat Pack with the shaker hood. It’s like the muscle car of his dreams. He’s been reading up on them recently and found that some develop a rust problem on the rocker panels right by the rear wheels due to a foam (sound deadening?) that collects moisture and therefore promotes corrosion. Has anybody heard of this before?

He sent me a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but the forum is confusing and there’s no clear answer from what I can see. Apparently some people dig the foam out to prevent the problem and if he is to purchase one, that’d be the first order of business.

If nobody here has any idea, I suppose I’ll ask my teacher tonight. Luckily he’s a Chrysler master tech so maybe he’s heard of this before.

Haven’t heard of it. Seems logical. Sound deadening in a Challenger Scat Pack is for nerds anyways.

Do a few reverse burnouts to coat the rockers in rubber, problem solved.

But no, never heard of it. They’ve been out 8 years now, plenty of V6 beaters too, so if there’s anywhere particularly prone to rust that information should be available.

My cousin just got a plum crazy scat pack charger he loves it. As for the sound deadening thing, he used to have a 2011 charger with 70k+ miles that had foam/fabric sound deadening crap, and there was never any rust or anything that I noticed.

Reverse burnouts. I’m down.

Who care! Just keep it garaged and it’ll be fine

LMFAO

That was one of the big issues going on when I left Chrysler nearly 2 years ago (I worked on LA/LD/LX, they had it on WD/WK as well). If it’s the thing I’m thinking of, the real issue was the W clips they used to snap the rockers to the body did not have adequate sealing, and has since been fixed with a new W clip with a better integrated seal.

I had a 2010 Challenger SRT8 that I daily drove including harsh winters and never heard of or experienced rust in that area.

He unfortunately doesn’t have a garage. He lives in an apartment and renting a garage would cost him like $150/month. He’d much rather put that money into a fast car haha

No problem! Hope your buddy likes his new Challenger, and if he’s still worried about the rust I’m pretty sure the change I’m thinking of was implemented by 2016 model year.

Good to know, thanks!

Plum crazy is the best color for these cars! If or when he pulls the trigger on one, I’ll try to talk him into it but he’s a huge fan of the paint color of the one I posted haha

It’s a really nice color as well, I just like stuff that pops a bit more. Why have a silver car when you can have a purple or orange one.
